Music Video: LOST IN THE WORLD

Audience: Initially, we thought the target should be generally everyone, but after close observation we decided that it has to be for male aged 15-25. This reason being that some lyrics that we thought are not appropriate for 14year old or below.
However, due to the hard rap lyrics and heavy vocals in the music, it could also be suited for older aging hip hop fan.

Resume: This Hip hop genre type of music we chose was basically about a teenager/young person having a fantasy being lost in the world trying to find his lost brother. He pointlessly heads on into the woods hoping to find him, he even sometimes finds clues that he thought might lead him to his location. The video interpretation is pretty straight forward considering the fact that its a situation of search and find with efforts and hope that we know might eventually be in vein.
The hip hop aspect of it is shown through the strong lyrics, containing feelings he his having about the situation.

Suggested Elements:
Performance_ Again, since the video is about a single person's fantasy, the performance and focus is mainly on that single person. Although, there is a maximum of three performers in the video including his brother and the flash of an unknown person he keeps seeing.
In other words, it is more of a narrative and few performance video.
Costumes_ There are mainly dark clothing in the video. This is to reflect the kind of sad and dark mood he his having in the fantasy. The hoods used are specifically to cover up faces to hide identity and illustrate more on the fact that he is being followed while also trying to find someone.
However, the smart clothing he had on towards the end not only signifies that he his having a nightmare/fantasy, but also breaks the stereotype feelings that he his a young black guy who his presumably living a hard life, and shows that he his actually living more than an average life.
SFX_ Due to the vocals and Nativity of the music, we decided that using Slow Motion in more than 75% of the video will best suit the touch and emphasis of the music.

Research for costumes

We took costumes carefully we used different costumes to show different parts of time such the dream the main character has a blue shirt black denim trousers and black trainers.

In the dream he is searching for his brother Antonio so to show hes been looking for him a long time we make Yomi were another costume this will be casual clothing to show that he is a regular person. We got the idea from the Stan because the way you dress don't always fit in with the situation you are in.

When he wakes up from his dream Yomi is dressed formally and smart to show he is somewhere of importance to him however there is a part of comedy in the video becase the audience finds out that he is sleeping in his bosses office and is on the verge of losing his job.

We decided to dress Clive formally with a Black Suit to show he's at a higher authority than Yomi also the suit will show that he's a person to be respected however in the video Yomi is asleep and leaves Clive waiting

This music video is a performance and narrative video as both Professor green and Emeli are adding the performance side there is also a detailed story within the song, which relates to the lyrics very well this is backed up by loads of close ups and the choreography there was also hand held camera movements within the video.

Goodwin's Music Analysis/ Craig Analysis
this music video will come under amplification because amplification because the director of the video has used unusual and surrealistic approaches to create this video, this is shown because although the video shown is in relation to the song it has done this by using creative interpretation, E.G- they use visual matching as the boy look through the blinds at his parents then it goes to pro green singing in front of a larger set of blinds which shows the hiding he has had to do from his parents, also it shows pro green singing in a aeroplane shelter and Emile singing in a boat warehouse, this shows the juxtaposition between the scenes with a bright light coming through at the back.

Intertextuality
intertextuality can be seen all the way through as the director has chosen a man woman and child to act in the music video, they come together to create an in film effect of which story of which the boy has never been liked by his father and the amount of hiding and watching he does over his dad constantly, although the footage shown is not from an actual film is was put together to show the struggle children have to go through because there parents dislike/unfavore them.

Camera Use and Shots
throughout the music video there were many close ups of both professor green and Emilie sande to introduce the pair of them and to show their emotions, there was long shots of professor stood there with the light coming through behind him also mid shots of the Emile as she is performing and of the family acting to show the dramatic moments within the family

RESEARCH OF FILMING LOCATION

We researched for our location on google maps, looking for the most appropriate location we could find for the video. he had to look for a location which had woods because we all agreed that the song and the lyrics would match with that sort of location.

We found our ideal location in Clayton, Manchester , because it was the perfect location we had in mind and it was the easiest location that everyone would be able to attend and the distance was suitable for everyone within the group.
Because the song is about been lost and the location gives the audience that intention that the actor is lost in the woods, that is why we came to the conclusion of using this location. becuase we can relate the song to the video.

We meet and discussed the choices we had and we agreed on that the Kanye West - Lost in the world because this video has got potential we thought it has good opportunities because the music video we seen by students was successful.

So we thought our with our ideas combined we could achieve a successful music which has originality due to certain parts of the video I think the most original bit is when Yomi (the main actor for the music video) wakes up from the disturbing dream he has as his boss walks in (Clive Toniato) and fires him we liked how our video has a twist to in the end

Wretch 32- Don't Go Ft. Josh Kumra- Analysis

Video Category

This is a performance video and both wretch 32 and josh kumra both add the performance side to the music video, due to the fact of the choreography, and the wide variety of close ups throughout, some panning shots are used as wretch is moving around singing.

This music video would come under illustration, it is illustration because the director of the video has illustrated the meaning of the lyrics and had visualized the music in a straightforward way, which is a denotation as the umbrella is denoted as the image on the wall. also the boy running with the black then white flag denoted the sadness with the two colours changing.

Camera use and shots
There was loads of close ups of wretch throughout to show his emotions and also to introduce his in his music video, there were close ups of the children and the woman to show there emotions in relation to the images on the wall behind them, there were long shots as the boy was running with the flag this could also have been an establishing shot as you could see the surrounding images, there was other medium shots of wretch and the the woman to show there clothing and body structure in relation to the music there was also close ups of josh has he was introduced to show his emotions behind his words and to introduce the unknown singer, there is also a bit of zooming used to cut into key points.

Camera Movements
Throughout the music video there was mainly panning, moving left, right also inwards to create the movement effect and the point that somebody is going away.

Editing
In the music video there is slow motion added into the video as the boy with the flag is running, there are also some retreating camera actions and the boys runs towards the camera. There are fast cuts used as it constantly cuts from wretch to the woman to the boy back to wretch the straight to josh. It has also got high to low depth of field as josh is all blurry then it focuses in on him.

Mise-on-scene
The costumes used in the music video are mainly black and white to build up the sadness brewing in the video and to influence the album name, there is also writing on the walls of the main lyrics and pictures of wings and the suns rays to create a denotation.

This single doesn’t have a video unfornately when we was doing our research however with this type of music we made ideas however of the video we believe the would be about loneliness and isolation from either somebody or the world because there was a video from a students on this track and there ideas were similar to our ideas.

Genre and genre convections

The genre of the music is Hip Hop the convections of this genre is that the money is an important symbol however this video we believe that money wont be a important symbol since there wont be a significance to show this image/status of wealth.

This song has not released an official music video however there is a highly rated music video made by media students that is on the site youtube.com and the video is illustration.

Illustration- the music video relates to the theme of loneliness and the individual lyrics of the song. For example when kanye mentions an angel in this song the students thought carefully an dressed and style a person to make them look like an angel. Also the other elements suit with the song like the young male running in a deserted forest.

Camerawork – the camera is tracking slow and panning which fits perfectly with the song, as the pace of the song is slow.

Editing there isn’t a particular digital effect we noticed except for the text the clip are edited and put together perfectly which makes it look good. Also it looks proffesional.

Mise en scene the location of the wood is a perfect idea of which the students must of thought carefully of this location also this location we were influnced by this as on of our location is a public park however it has a forest theme.
